Things You Need To Do When Moving House
Our removals company always get questions by our customers and there are a lot of things to consider when you are moving house. It’s better to start early instead of just assuming that you will figure out everything later on. So to make the process less stressful for you, we have created a list of the things you need to do when moving house.
Inspect the New House
The best time to inspect the new house is when it is empty. Before you unpack your belongings and arrange your furniture, you should make sure that everything is working properly including the outlets, fixtures and switches.
Check if all requested repairs have been completed by the past owner. If there’s anything that goes against the contract, contact the estate agent to know the best solution to the problem.
Don’t forget to change the locks before you move in. You can either change the lock on your own or call a locksmith to do it for you. If you have small kids or pets, you should also child poof or pet proof your home.
Keep box cutters, glassware or anything dangerous out of reach of your kids or pets. Check all windows to ensure that they are securely closed. You can also create a child-free area for discarded packing tools and materials.
Move Out
Once you have packed everything, it’s time to move out of your old home. Label the boxes so that when the removal company arrives, they will know which boxes need special care. It will also be easier for you to unpack and sort your stuff when you arrive at your new home. Don’t forget to leave the keys of your old home to the new owners.
Update Your Address
Notify the post office of your new address before the move date. You should also give your new address to your family, friends, loan providers, bank, subscription services and other organizations or people who send you regular bills or correspondence.
Clean Your New Home
Clean your home right after moving in. If you don’t have the patience or time to do it on your own, you can hire professional cleaners to do it for you. This is also the best time to get organized.
You will save yourself plenty of trouble and time if you plan everything beforehand. This is particularly important if you’re moving heavy and large items such as furniture.
Give yourself enough time to think about how you would like your new home to look like. You can also allow your older kids to organise their rooms. Take this chance to say hello to your neighbours as well. This is a good way to get acquainted with them and learn more about the community as well as the services available in the area.
Moving house is a stressful process, but following the tips stated above can help make everything so much easier for you. If there are a lot of things to do, don’t hesitate to ask for help from your family or friends. You can also hire a removal company to do everything for you or if it is a small move, you can use a man and van service.
